THE ORPHEUS DUO IN FREE CONCERT

Miami, FL - September, 8 2008 –
On Friday, September 12, 2008, the Miami Piano Circle and Florida
International University’s School of Music present An Evening of Mexican
Music: The Works of Ponce, Ibarra, Chavez, Coral and Arias y Luna. This performance of The Orpheus Duo, with Javier Arias on cello and Mia Vassilev accompanying on piano, starts off an exciting season for the dynamic musicians. This free community event will be presented 8:00 pm, at Wertheim Concert Hall, Florida International University School of Music, located at 10910 S.W. 17th Street, Miami, FL.
The Orpheus Duo starts the evening with Sonata (1922) composed by Manuel M.Ponce; followed with Música para Teatro III (1987) by Federico Ibarra G..After intermission, the Duo will continue the Mexican classical musical celebration with Madrigal (1921) by Carlos Chavez and Sonata (1999) by Leonardo Coral.
The final composition of the evening is Dos Piezas Op. 59. This is a very special piece for cellist Javier Arias, as it was composed in 2004 by his father, Emmanuel Arias y Luna. Javier Arias is also the cellist for the Amernet String Quartet, an Artist-in-Residence, and professor of Cello at Florida International University stated that, "I am very proud and honored
to have such a talented father. I get great pleasure in presenting his works, especially the ones that we are able to premier here in Miami."
An Evening of Mexican Music: The Works of Ponce, Ibarra, Chavez, Coral and Arias y Luna will be the first of a series of performances presented by The Orpheus Duo. Please join them in this free musical celebration funded by the
Miami Piano Circle and Florida International University.
The Orpheus cello and piano Duo is committed to promoting music written for
this combination among audiences of all ages. The Orpheus Duo performs classical, romantic and contemporary repertoire, as well as works from
today's leading composers from all over the world. The Orpheus Duo offers programs for school visits, presents children’s concerts, master classes and
informal sessions of conversations with music for groups of all ages.
