Florida Atlantic University will announce a gift of $1.5 million from Living Room Theaters, Inc. (LRT) on Monday, September 15 at 10:30 a.m. in the Board of Trustees Room in the Administration Building on the Boca Raton campus,777 Glades Road. The gift, eligible for matching funds from the state of Florida’s Alec P. Courtelis Capital Facility Enhancement Challenge Grant
Program, will fund the building of a state-of-the-art movie theater complex with four separate theaters and a café on the Boca Raton campus. When matched, the gift will double to $3 million.
The theaters will be used for FAU students during the day, and on evening and weekends, LRT will screen foreign and independent films to community patrons. Groundbreaking for the new theaters will begin in December of 2008.
Speakers at the event include FAU President Frank T. Brogan; Randy Talbot,university advancement senior vice president and FAU Foundation executive director; Manjunath Pendakur, dean of the Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters; Ernesto Rimoch, Mexican filmmaker and part owner of LRT; and an FAU film student.
