Miami Beach, FL -- In recognition of Domestic Violence Month (October),members of the Miami Beach Commission for Women will distribute resource information from a variety of domestic violence agencies. The information will be available on Saturday and Sunday, October 4 and 5,
from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the front entrance of Publix on the Bay,1920 West Avenue, Miami Beach.
Information to be provided is designed to help area women and men living under duress because of violence in their lives and will include:
*Domestic Violence Hits Home by Miami Dade County
*Greater Miami Jewish Federation Access & Information by Jewish
Community Services of South Florida
*Shalom Bayit, The Domestic Abuse Program of JCS (Jewish
Community Services )
*Voices Against Violence by the Women's Fund of Miami Dade
*A Parent's Handbook by Liz Claiborne Women's Work
*A Women's handbook by Liz Claiborne Woman's Work
*A Teen's Handbook by Liz Claiborne
"The Commission for Women is taking action to help stop domestic violence in our area. This is a widespread problem that affects all
socioeconomic levels. Our Commission's goal is to provide people with the resources they need to help break the negative cycle of violence,"
said Ida Percal, a member of the Commission for Women, who is spearheading the project.
The Miami Beach Commission for Women strives to assure that the women of
the City of Miami Beach have full participation in the issues that have an impact on their lives. The Commission advises city officials of
social, economic, and legal barriers that prevent women from obtaining meaningful roles in the family, the labor force, government and society
as a whole working toward the elimination of those barriers. The group meets on the second Tuesday of each month.
