Wednesday, July 29, 2009: Community Forum: "National Health Care Reform and Its
Potential Impacts in Florida"
This forum, cosponsored by the Collins Center for Public Policy, will provide unique and
timely insights on how national health care reform could affect patients, providers,
employers, employees, insurers and Florida communities. An extraordinary panel of
national experts and local industry leaders and stakeholders has been invited to present
their views. Please note that the forum is on Wednesday, July 29, not Friday, July 29, as
the registration form incorrectly states.
The Miami-Dade County Democratic Executive Committee, at its meeting on July 13,
2009, enacted the following resolution:
The Miami-Dade County Democratic Executive Committee urges the United States
Congress to enact a universal health care program which will provide quality,
comprehensive health care for all residents of the United States."
At a forum of congressional candidates at that meeting, all four present, including former
state Rep. Phillip J. Brutus, Miami Gardens Mayor Shirley Gibson, state Rep. Yolly
Roberson and attorney/activist Roderick D. Vereen, expressed support for the resolution
and in addition expressed support for a single-payer health care plan such as the one
proposed in HR 676. Congressman (and candidate for the Democratic nomination to the
U.S. Senate) Kendrick Meek is a co-sponsor of that resolution. The South Florida
AFL-CIO is also on record in support of HR 678.
