Dear Resident,
As many of you are aware from the media coverage, President Barak Obama is attempting to pass a universal health care plan known as HR3200 America's Affordable Health Choices Act. This Act is scheduled to be heard in Congress this August. However, I am fearful that the President's rush to have this passed in Congress might not give all of our Senators and Congressmen the opportunity to review its information accurately.
From an email my office received from the White House, President Obama's plan will guarantee your health care and security with eight basic consumer protections: No discrimination for pre-existing conditions
No exorbitant out-of-pocket expenses, deductibles or co-pays
No cost-sharing for preventive care
No dropping of coverage if you become seriously ill
No gender discrimination
No annual or lifetime caps on coverage
Extended coverage for young adults
Guaranteed insurance renewal so long as premiums are paid
My office has also been provided the following information pertaining to the President's health care plan. I am currently reviewing it. However, I feel it is important that I share with you the concerns that were brought to my office regarding the plan.
Sec 123: Health Benefits Advisory Committee: There will be a public-private advisory committee that will establish benefit standards, and make recommendations for periodic updates to said standards.
Sec 141: Health Choices Administration; Health Choices Commissioner: In consultation with the State and Secretaries of Labor and Treasure, the Commissioner shall establish the qualified health benefits plan (QHBP) standards. Commissioner will promote QHBP regardless of whether plan is through the Exchange or otherwise. Will conduct random audits to make sure this is occurring.
Section 152: Prohibiting Discrimination in Healthcare: Healthcare will be provided without regard to personal characteristics extraneous
