Online registration for the 8th annual LAMC Latin Alternative Music Conference) will close this Friday, July 6th. All further LAMC registration must be done onsite at the Roosevelt Hotel beginning on Wednesday, July 10th. Among the LAMC 2007 highlights are a Central Park Summer Stage concert on Saturday, July 14th with Mexican rock icons Café Tacuba and The Bronx’s own bilingual trip-hop/funk collective Pacha Massive.; LAMC’s annual concert at Celebrate Brooklyn, which will take place the evening of Friday, July 13th in Prospect Park, and features Zoé, Chetes and The Pinker Tones. Additional LAMC events include the Music & Film Night @ Central Park SummerStage, Indie Showcase @ The Mercury Lounge, MTV Tr3s/Batanga showcase @ Bowery Ballroom, Acoustic Showcase @ SOB’s, and Closing Night Party @ The Cooper Hewitt Museum.
LAMC is also proud to announce the winner of this year’s Discovery Program. Congratulations to Cuarto Poder! This Venezuelan hip-hop group is comprised of Cotur (César Velásquez), Rojo (Luís Chirinos),Psycho (Carlos Carillo), Apache (Larry Rada) y MkC (Miguel Cerdá). The group is off to a strong start in the U.S. with their single “Arenita Playita” being featured on the soundtrack to mun2’ “The Chicas Project.” Cuarto Poder joins the ranks of previous LAMC Discovery Program winners that have gone on to successful careers such as Kinky, Los Abandoned and Pacha Massive. Cuarto Poder will make its U.S. debut at the LAMC Indie Showcase on Wednesday July 11th at the Mercury Lounge.
