Dear Friend:
I hope you had a wonderful Labor Day weekend! Another month has passed and
as always I have been keeping very busy with the campaign. I have attended
additional Meet and Greet events and a fundraiser hosted by Rudy Bustamante,
Mike Adams and Irela Bague. I am very diligent about continuing to walk
throughout different Miami Beach neighborhoods several times a week. Even
though it is really hot outside these days, I am really enjoying the
opportunity to meet new people and talk to them about my plans as Mayor of
Miami Beach. Most recently I was interviewed by and featured in Wire
Magazine. I want to thank everyone at wire for a terrific picture and
wonderful article and wish to share a question posed to me.
Interviewer: Why do you want to run for mayor?
Matti: It's a natural progression for me and this race is a very important
race. I have been lucky to serve the eight years I have with a great group
of people. We had a vision of what we wanted to do in Miami Beach that
started with Barbara and her historic preservation movement. That vision
carried forward even though it took us a while to get the right people
elected. This is the first time we're going to have so many new
commissioners. We had activists on the commission. Now, the pendulum has
swung back a little bit. Special interests have been left off the commission
for a long time. So I think that in this election, you have to really look
at the candidates because a lot of what we have gained is now at stake and
can be lost. There are candidates who are being funded in hopes of regaining
that special interest influence. That's why I'm running and feel that this
election is so important. My race is important and the other races are just
as important.
My friends and neighbors on Miami Beach, I still need your help in a couple
of specific areas. The areas in which I need immediate help are ...
